2 lessons, 2 instructors, 1 review. 5 Stars for both!!

Thijmen in the evening in wind force 6. Very educational, fun and progress. And that with 'never to the 1st time'.

The next day Anna. Patient, smoothing out what I'm still doing wrong and adding the next lesson set, without me thinking this will never be anything. It will definitely be something!

Great school, great place

Recommended for beginner kitesurfers! Dorrit, Sebas and Daan are very enthusiastic and good teachers. Also a good place for a beer afterwards!

Last weekend I got my first kitesurfing lesson from Dorrit. Despite the changing weather between the 2 days, it was very fun and I got a good base to do the next lesson in a few weeks.

Last Saturday I had my first kitesurfing lesson from Sebastiaan. Bjorn came to watch. Both were super good. They patiently take you through the theory and clearly see if you understand it and where the points of attention are. I look forward to the next lesson!

Yesterday I had my first (of three) introductory kitesurfing lesson from Sebastiaan and Bjorn. Without any experience or an idea of what to expect, I had an incredibly great day. Good explanation, nice start and, to top it off, fantastic weather!
I'm already really looking forward to the next lesson. I "fear" that this might turn into a new hobby..!

Had two really great lessons from Marre! She is calm and very clear in her explanations.
Also had a lesson from Michael who was a bit stricter but very good at explaining things. I learned a lot from it.
I'm immediately a fan of the whole club, the vibe and the people who work there are all equally chill and nice.
I've now booked 3 more private lessons because I really want to get the hang of this, and hopefully I'll buy my own set next week so I can really get going. So glad I ended up with you guys.

The basics

In your first kitesurf lesson, we focus on equipment, technique and safety. When it is safe to kitesurf and when not. You will learn how to properly set up a kite, launch it into the air and all the basic flying exercises!

Frequently Asked Questions Kitesurfing School

During the lesson, we naturally provide all the necessary kite equipment — from kite to board and harness, everything is included. You can buy water shoes in our shop if you want. Don't have your own wetsuit? No problem — you can easily rent one from us. This way, you're always well-prepared to get on the water!

During the first day of your course, we work with small groups of at least 3 and no more than 6 students. This way you get a lot of personal attention, but you also learn from each other and share the first kitesurfing experience together.

From the second lesson (in a multi-day course), the group becomes even smaller: you will then be on the water with a maximum of 3 students, depending on the type of lesson you have chosen — private lesson, duo lesson or group lesson.

Very occasionally it happens that there are not enough participants registered for a specific time slot. In that case, we will always contact you. You will then have the option to upgrade to a duo or private lesson at an attractive reduced rate. Of course, you can also choose to move the lesson to another time with sufficient participants free of charge.

This way we ensure together that your kitesurfing lesson always takes place in a way that suits you!

Learning to kitesurf without kitesurf lessons is extremely dangerous and difficult. We at BLOW Kitesurfschool strongly advise against this. Compare it to snowboarding down a steep slope without experience. Apart from being terrifying, you also run the risk of a terrible accident. Kitesurf lessons make kitesurfing less dangerous and painful. There are also a number of other advantages:
  • Learning to kitesurf is a super fun process
  • You'll learn to kitesurf faster
  • You don't need your own equipment
  • You'll learn to assess risks
  • And during the kitesurf lessons, you'll meet lots of new people
Most accidents that happen in the kitesurfing world happen 99% of the time because beginners think they don't need kitesurf lessons and therefore make the most crucial mistakes. By taking kitesurf lessons at a good kitesurfing school with experienced instructors, you ensure yourself of safe, personal and, above all, fun kitesurf lessons.

You can't learn to kitesurf in just one kitesurf lesson. From our experience, we see that beginner kitesurfers need about 3 to 5 kitesurf lessons to really get the hang of it. It's important that you not only learn the practical side but also the theory so you can always kitesurf safely and independently.

BLOW is open from April 1st to October 31st. Your kitesurf lessons are valid for 365 days, except for November – March. Make sure you schedule them in time. It is recommended to start lessons early in the year and schedule them close together so you can kitesurf independently as soon as possible.

Without wind, it's not possible to learn to kitesurf, as a minimum number of knots is needed to keep a kite in the air. On the other hand, there is a maximum number of knots to be able to give kitesurf lessons safely. On average, 70% of the lessons always go ahead!

  • Minimum wind: 10 knots (3bft)
  • Maximum wind: 30 knots (6-7bft)

This always depends on the experience and weight of the student and the elements we want to teach the student.

"If a kitesurf lesson can't go ahead, we always contact (email, phone, text) our students so they don't come for nothing."

Kitesurfing remains an extreme sport, and you can make it as crazy as you want. Compare it to snowboarding; everyone, young and old, does it in their own safe way. Kitesurfing is very similar; make sure you stay within your own 'comfort zone' and start slowly with sailing back and forth, which is already fantastic.
Taking kitesurf lessons is an important step in this. This way, you learn to kitesurf safely and responsibly. The way BLOW Kitesurfschool teaches is by applying a step-by-step method. You determine the pace. In addition, we use the latest and safest materials so we can rely 100% on our equipment.
We are convinced that everyone can learn to kitesurf and that it will become the #1 popular sport in the Netherlands! We see it every day; everyone can learn it: kids from 10 to grandpas of 70!

We have three standard times of day when we teach: morning (09:00), afternoon (13:00), and evening (17:00). But if you have a special request, you can always contact us, and we'll try to be as flexible as possible!

Always pay attention to the following points if you want to take safe and good kitesurfing lessons. Not every kitesurfing school prioritizes safety & quality.

  1.  Certified kitesurfing school
Make sure that kitesurfing schools are certified according to the leading quality marks: IKO/ VDWS/ NKV. BLOW Kitesurfschool is certified as 1 of the 6 IKO kitesurfing centers in the Netherlands.

  2. Experienced Instructors
Do the instructors have demonstrable experience and are they certified according to the applicable standards? At BLOW, we only work with highly trained IKO and NKV instructors with backgrounds in technology, sports & health. Because they have years of experience in teaching, they can clearly convey both the theory and the practical exercises.
  3. Maximum group size
Wondering about the group sizes for a kitesurf lesson? BLOW Kitesurfschool maintains a maximum of 3 students per kitesurf instructor in a group (except for the intro lesson) to ensure the safety and quality of a kitesurf lesson.
  4. New Material
A kitesurfing school should always use well-maintained and new material during all its kitesurfing lessons. The chance of accidents is greater as older material is used. BLOW renews all kites and bars 2 to 3 times a year so that we always work with the latest material.

During the season, all the material is checked every few days by the instructors of BLOW. To guarantee the safety of our students during a kitesurfing lesson, helmets, impact vests and lycras are mandatory.

  5. Customer friendliness & Service
-Is the kitesurfing school still available for further advice after the kitesurfing lesson?
-How well is the school known and what is the reputation of the kitesurfing school?
-What about certification, when do you get your IKO certificate?

  6. Location
Just like with snowboarding, it's nice to start on a bunny slope without bumps and steep slopes. This principle also applies to kitesurfing; you learn to kitesurf faster in flat and knee-deep water. That is why BLOW gives kitesurfing lessons on the Zandmotor in Kijkduin. In this lagoon you don't have to take rough waves and currents into account, so you can focus 100% on your board & kite. If you do happen to lose your board, you can walk through the shallow water and easily find your board again.
